Gold Leaf / Closed Corner
Mo's Gallery is pleased to
offer true gold leaf frames from some of the finest frame-makers in the country.
These frame-makers are artists in themselves, as the application of gold leaf to wood
frame is a very laborious and precise process. Many of these artists receive their
training from family who have been carrying on this art for generations. Proper
application of gold leaf requires a steady hand, a watchful eye, and intimate knowledge of
the many types of materials that are used.
A gold-leaf finish can only
look as good as the frame it is applied to. Many of our frames are built from
milled, mitred, joined, then hand-carved. This makes for the ultimate in custom
framing, as we can help you choose the perfect corner design for your artwork. Of
course, because the frame still has no finish after the corners are carved, you can also
choose the type of finish you would like on your frame.

Wood
Gold leafed and hand-carved frames are beautiful, but not suitable for all
framing. We offer thousands of wood frames, cut and joined in our shop, for you to
choose from. That quantity might seem overwhelming, but our staff is quite talented
at helping you narrow your selection down to the two or three frames that are perfect for
your artwork. You can just as easily find the right frame for that 16th
century portrait of your ancestors as you can for your high school
diploma.

Metal
Today's contemporary styles
occasionally call for the use of metal frames. These frames have sleek lines, often
in finishes that cannot be duplicated with a wood frame. Additionally, metal frames
are frequently more economical than wood frames, and are a good choice when cost is the
most important factor.
Acrylic
Artifacts or three-dimensional mixed media artworks
are often very successfully displayed in acrylic boxes. The example below shows a bow
and quiver of arrows from years past. We mounted the piece to a rough silk, then
used the acrylic box to protect it while not distracting from the artifact itself.
